Groundworks: New Play Series

terraNOVA Collective is proud to present staged readings of new plays by ERIC CONGER and KATE CORTESI.

The Groundwork: New Play Series is terraNOVA's initiative to showcase new play development projects and expose this work to artistic leaders, industry professionals and the general public. 

Readings will take place at IRT Theater, 3B, 154 Christopher Street, between Greenwich and Washington. 



BEAUTIFUL BOY

Featuring Lauren Blumenfeld, Tony Carlin, Melissa Saint-Amand, James Scruggs, Frances Sternhagen, 
and Brigitte Viellieu-Davis.

When Bill's adoptive parents die and he is laid off from his job, he feels lost. His need to find out who he is and where he comes from grows stronger. The search for his birth parents takes him from Missouri to Connecticut. What he finds shocks and disturbs him, but is he disappointed? This funny, suspenseful play tackles the plight of grown children lost in a closed system, where parents' rights trump their children's need to know.

When a high school achiever's college application reveals a family secret, her mother goes on damage control as a 500-word essay sends the family into a tailspin. But is this child traumatized by domestic violence as the essay claims, or by a culture that has trained her to market herself at any cost?
